Rochester, Minnesota has two main Cab companies, Rochester Yellow Cab and Med City Taxi. Rochester Yellow Cab has been in business in Rochester for over 17 years, Med City has been in Rochester for roughly 11 years. As a transportation driver in Rochester, I will give you my basic opinion and review of both as they pertain to 5 different categories and on a 10-Point scale (10 being the highest). My short review of both is my knowledge as a driver and also from the customer's responses and opinions of both.
Meter Price: Overall this category seems to be the same across the board. Most of the Taxi Cab drivers in Rochester are honest in this way and don't gouge the meter for customers and the most part travel destinations in the local Rochester area by cab usually don't cost more than $15.00 one way. Med City 7.0 / Yellow Cab 7.0
Dispatch Call Center: I've heard from numerous customers about their customer service experience when placing a call to each Cab company's dispatch center. Med City for the most part seems more professional and organized. When they answer the phone the voice on the other end usually sounds welcoming and professional. Yellow Cab is hit or miss depending on who picks up the phone. For the most part experience with the call center at times has been less professional and disorganized. Sometimes dispatch staff can be very nice and other times very rude. Med City 8.0 / Yellow Cab 6.0
Pick-Up Reliability: There seems to be a bit more of a wait when calling Yellow Cab you should expect your wait time to be 30mins+. Med City Taxi is usually 15mins+. We have to consider travel time in Rochester across town to get around from point A to Point B is roughly 15 minutes in general. Med City 8.5 / Yellow Cab 6.5
Drivers: Most of the drivers for Med City Taxi and Yellow Cab have worked for both companies drivers are hired back and forth. As with any company, Cab drivers can be nice or rude, weird, or "normal" so one wouldn't expect anything less or more for Rochester Taxicab drivers. Some things that stick out, in contrast, are Med City Taxi drivers have more of a clean appearance, uniforms are pressed, drivers seem more welcoming. Yellow Cab drivers once again are hit or miss, some drivers are neat in appearance while others look more disheveled, some are friendlier than others. It seems for Yellow Cab there is not much consistency for drivers across the board. Med City 8.0 / Yellow Cab 6.5
