"Simply put, yes Rochester, Minnesota is very safe in general. Our downtown follows rules that most cities follow, safe in the day keep your eye on things at night. But to be more specific, the Peace Plaza no matter what time of day is very safe to walk and relax about."

The Peace Plaza in recent years has become the flaming torch of Rochester (it lets visitors know, that yes Rochester does have fun things to do). The Peace Plaza area was completely overhauled and remodeled, adding new sidewalks with lights, and also hosting events in the winter and summer months.

The Mayo Clinic, Sunstone properties (The Khaler Hotel, Marriot hotel downtown) and the city of Rochester, Minnesota work in tandem to make sure this area of downtown is safe no matter what time of day or evening. This area is patrolled by hotel security, Mayo Clinic security, city Police and also mall security. So to answer your question, yes downtown Rochester and the Peace Plaza, is safer than the Las Vegas strip on a Saturday night. Overall 95 percent of Rochester is safe at anytime of day or night."
