Best places to Stay and Eat in Rochester

A limo drivers perspective on the best place to stay, eat and while in Rochester

  • "First, the best place to stay while you're in Rochester? It depends. If you're coming to Rochester for treatment at Mayo Clinic, I would say the Kahler Grand Hotel. Reason being is because its right across the street from the Mayo Clinic (less than half a block away), most people staying there are also visiting the Mayo Clinic, so in this way a person wouldn't be disturbed by a different group of hotel guests i.e sport teams etc. If you're coming to Rochester just to visit and no treatment, I would say the Marriott Hotel downtown would be a fine stay.
  • The best places to eat - I'm sure if you're planning to come to the Mayo Clinic Rochester, that you have done some of your own personal research online, about places to eat and the two restaurants that come up often, are Michaels Restaurant and Victoria's. These eateries are decent restaurants, but in my opinion not as 5 star as they are billed to be. I would say try Chester's Restaurant, Sontes, Newt's restaurant (the best burgers in town), 300 First and the Redwood Room offers some of the best food in town. I would say skip Michaels and Victoria's and try some of the "really" good food places here that Rochester has to offer.
  • Lastly, places to see, attractions - I would say, Silver Lake park (its a local hang out too) it's a nice place to relax and in the summer and winter months you can see at least over a 1000 geese at any time and they love bread and popcorn :). There is also paddle boating available. Treasure Island Casino, the casino is about 35 - 40 mins from Rochester, Minnesota and in my opinion is the best casino in the state. There is a free bus shuttle from Rochester that will take you there."
